The best-known magnetic tile brands in the Netherlands and Belgium are Magna-Tiles, Connetix, Magnaminds, Olvy and Tilesminds. They differ mainly in price per tile (from around €0.30 to €1.48 for the sets we looked at), in how much they tell you about materials and magnets, and in whether they deliver directly to the Netherlands and Belgium. All five are intended for children aged 3 and up.

In the interest of honesty: this article was written by Tilesminds, which is itself one of the brands in the comparison. That is why we only use information the brands publish on their own websites, together with the date we checked it. Anything we could not find is listed as “not known”.

In short

  • Price per tile varies widely: large sets from Magnaminds, Olvy and Tilesminds come to around €0.30–0.34 per tile, Magna-Tiles via the Dutch distributor around €1.05–1.48.
  • Magnet strength is not given as a measured value by any brand. Only Magna-Tiles names the type of magnet (ceramic/ferrite).
  • Material: Magna-Tiles, Connetix and Magnaminds mention (M)ABS plastic, Tilesminds recycled plastic; Olvy does not mention a material.
  • Age: all brands give 3 years as the minimum age.
  • Mixing brands: tiles from different brands often click together, but the connection can be weaker. Ideally, stick to one brand.

Price per tile = set price divided by the number of pieces, rounded to the nearest cent. For sets with special parts (such as a race track), the price per piece says less, because those parts differ in size and function.

The brands at a glance

Magna-Tiles

Magna-Tiles is an American brand and one of the best-known names in magnetic tiles. According to the brand, the tiles are made from MABS plastic and use ceramic (ferrite) magnets. Its own web shop only delivers within the United States; in the Netherlands and Belgium you buy Magna-Tiles through the official distributor. As a result, the price per tile in the sets we looked at is the highest in this comparison.

Connetix

Connetix is an Australian brand that delivers to Europe from a warehouse in the Netherlands. The brand mentions ABS plastic and “strong magnets”, and says itself that connections with other brands may feel less strong. We could not independently confirm a fixed euro price, because the website shows prices in dollars by default.

Magnaminds

Magnaminds is a Dutch web shop selling magnetic tiles in various set sizes. The brand mentions ABS plastic and strong magnets, and states in its FAQ that the tiles are suitable from age 3. In the larger sets, the price per tile is low.

Olvy

Olvy sells magnetic tiles and a race track set through a web shop for the Netherlands and Belgium. The brand mentions “sturdy magnets” and an age range of 3 to 12 years. We could not find the material of the tiles on the website.

Tilesminds

Tilesminds, the author of this article, makes magnetic tiles and blocks from non-toxic, recycled plastic, with strong magnets, suitable from age 3. Alongside tiles, there are sets of pixel-style magnetic blocks, such as the Magnetic Blocks 104 Pieces (Jungle) (€29.99), and a race track. The sets can be combined with each other.

What to look for when comparing

  • Price per tile, not just the set price. A large set is often cheaper per tile. Do check which shapes are included, though.
  • Magnets: strong magnets keep builds standing. Because brands do not give measured values, reviews from other parents are often the best guide here.
  • Material and safety: check what the brand says about the material and the CE marking. Magnets must be securely enclosed. Read more in Are magnetic tiles safe?
  • Age: all brands intend magnetic tiles for ages 3 and up, because of small parts and magnets.
  • Expanding: choose a brand you can buy extra sets from later. Tiles from different brands often fit, but not always equally well.
  • Delivery and service: does the brand deliver directly to the Netherlands and Belgium, and what are the shipping costs?

Which brand suits you?

  • You want a well-known international brand and price is less important: Magna-Tiles or Connetix.
  • You want lots of tiles at a low price per piece: compare the large sets from Magnaminds, Olvy and Tilesminds.
  • Material matters to you and you want tiles made from recycled plastic: Tilesminds.
  • Besides tiles, you also want Minecraft-style blocks or a matching race track: look at brands that offer that combination, such as Tilesminds with the Jungle and ICE blocks and the Orbit race track (€34.99).

Methodology: how we compared

  • We checked the brands' websites on 1 October 2026. For Magna-Tiles we used the official distributor for the Netherlands and Belgium, because the brand itself does not deliver to Europe.
  • We only use what the brands state themselves. Claims made by brands are shown in quotation marks or marked “according to brand”.
  • Anything we could not find or could not check ourselves is listed as “not known”.
  • We have not tested or measured tiles from other brands, so we make no claims about which brand has the strongest magnets.
  • Spotted a mistake or has a price changed? Let us know and we will update it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best magnetic tiles?

That depends on what matters to you. Magna-Tiles and Connetix are well-known international brands with a higher price. Magnaminds, Olvy and Tilesminds are cheaper per tile in large sets. Tilesminds makes its tiles from recycled plastic.

What is the difference between Magnaminds and Magna-Tiles?

Magna-Tiles is an American brand sold in the Netherlands and Belgium through a distributor, at around €1.05–1.48 per tile in the sets we looked at. Magnaminds is a Dutch web shop with larger sets at around €0.30–0.53 per tile. Both brands name ABS plastic as the material.

Can you mix magnetic tiles from different brands?

Often yes, but the connection can be weaker or the edges may not line up as neatly, because brands use different sizes and magnets. For the sturdiest builds, ideally stick to one brand.

From what age are magnetic tiles suitable?

All brands in this comparison give 3 years as the minimum age. Magnetic tiles contain magnets and are therefore not intended for children under 3.

How much does a good set of magnetic tiles cost?

In this comparison, a set of 100 to 150 tiles costs between roughly €33 and €105, depending on the brand. Work out the price per tile to compare sets fairly.
